House of Bills: An Update of Ontario Bills

Welcome back! After their winter break, the Legislature is back in session. With their return also comes the renewal of House of Bills updates, by which we report on the activity of public bills as they move through the Legislature. We identify those bills that were active, the date(s) of the activity, as well as the stage(s) that the bills reached. Each update will report on the previous sitting week’s activity and will occur on the Monday proceeding (or the Tuesday, depending on holiday hours).

Below, we have gathered an update of bill activity for the sitting week of Feb 22-24, also reporting on committee activity that took place before the legislature reconvened.

Committee Proceedings: What’s What and What’s Online


If you have ever researched legislative intent, there is a good chance you needed to sift through and read committee proceedings. Not every bill that is referred to a committee for review undergoes the same level of analysis (and some bills aren’t referred to a committee at all) but for those that are, committee documents can be sources of very useful information. They help researchers gain a better understanding about a bill’s purpose and the reasoning behind amendments made to the bill as it goes through the legislative process.
