Since Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives have prorogued the legislature until after the federal election, we thought we’d take a moment to briefly explain the concept of prorogation and its effects.

House of Bills: An Update on the Legislature
In our last House of Bills update before the summer adjournment, the Legislature was scheduled to return on September 13. However, on September 3 Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives announced that they would be proroguing the legislature until after the federal election. With the September 8 proclamation, the 1st Session of the 42nd Parliament of the province of Ontario has officially been prorogued. The legislature is currently set to return on October 4.
