Library Closure September 30, 2025 – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The Great Library will be closed Tuesday, September 30 in recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

According to Honourable Justice Murray Sinclair-baa, Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, “Education1 is what got us into this mess and education2 is key to getting us out of it.” In the spirit of this sentiment, we would like to draw your attention to two fundamental Indigenous Law resources, now publicly available via CanLII.

Keeping with their commitment to publishing more Indigenous-related legal content and providing broader access to foundational legal information, the people at CanLII recently announced that both the the Indigenous Law Journal and major historical case law collection Canadian Native Law Cases (1763–1978) are now freely accessible to all. From CanLII’s post3:

  • Canadian Native Law Cases (1763–1978): All 527 CNLC citations are now available, including 370 newly added decisions and 157 references integrated into existing decisions. Thanks to the permission of the University of Saskatchewan’s Indigenous Law Centre, the original headnotes have been preserved. Example: The King v. Phelps (1823)
  • They have this year begun “publishing the back catalogue of the Indigenous Law Journal, a student-led, peer-reviewed journal based at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. The journal provides a unique and vital forum for the exploration of Indigenous legal traditions, settler-colonial law, and the relationships between them, with articles by scholars, practitioners, and community members engaging with Indigenous laws, governance, and rights from across Turtle Island and beyond.”

The Great Library will reopen Wednesday, October 1. Visit our Library Hours webpage for more information.
