The Great Library will be closed for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation this coming Wednesday, September 30, 2026. We will resume normal hours of operation Thursday, October 1.
In recognition of the day’s significance, we encourage everyone who encounters this post to use the day to learn, reflect, and consider how we can contribute to reconciliation, both individually and collectively. A recently acquired book, and a list of relevant resources, available through the LSO Great Library:
- Legal Information for Indigenous People / Bella Coola Legal Advocacy Program
Practice Collection; KF 390 .I6 B45 2025 (also available online)
- This list comprises all of the print and digital materials classified with the word Indigenous in at least one subject heading – many are LSO CPD publications and therefore freely and remotely available to everyone, everywhere.
Indigenous initiatives and resources available through the Law Society:
In early 2026, Convocation approved Shared Pathways as a mandatory Indigenous legal education course requirement for all licensees.
The course sets a baseline level of competence for lawyers and paralegals. It covers Indigenous legal issues, histories and present-day realities that relate to legal practice in Ontario.
Indigenous learning resources from other organizations, for people who would rather watch or listen than read:
- The full CBC collection on National Day for Truth & Reconciliation – hear the stories of Indigenous voices through specials, documentaries, and films.
- The Orange Shirt society shares videos on residential school history, reconciliation, and truth and healing.
- Unlearning the Colonial Lies, Reclaiming the Knowing with Tanya Talaga: Dr. Candace Manitopyes sits with award-winning journalist, author, and filmmaker Tanya Talaga, whose work has become a lifeline for truth in a country still wrestling with its past.
